Numeracy and Literacy

Our English and Mathematics programs are based upon the new Australian Curriculum and are centred upon what each grades requirement is as set by ACARA
At St Michael's we have high expectations for all. We are proud in our commitment to provide quality education to students to assist them in improving their educational outcomes. We have a strong literacy and numeracy focus at St Michael’s School as a basis for building the students’ knowledge base. We have the strategic direction of working as a whole school using The National Accelerated Literacy Program, an evidence based program designed for Indigenous students with a high success rate of improving students literacy levels.  We have committed considerable resources and training to provide all staff with the knowledge and understanding to teach using this proven pedagogy.

Our junior school is working with ACU RoleM Mathematics Program designed to ensure that students with Australian Standard English as their second language are given a structured developmental program that will allow them to achieve success in mathematics. Our senior school Mathematics program is based upon First Steps Mathematics along with iMaths texts.
